New Coach Certification
1. Take General Orientation and Protective Behavior Class
- Special Olympics Mission
- Organizational History & Structure
- Intellectual Disability; Eligibility; Rules
Within One Year Of Start
2. Take a Training Seminar/course in one of the following:
Skills Course;Basic Sport Skills and Strategies
- Coaches training course offered right before training season
Tactics Course
- Sports Strategies and Tactics
Unified Sports®Course
- Definition of the Program and Guidelines for Implementation
Officials Course in Specific Sport
- Rules, Guidelines and Procedures of Officiating a Sport
Comprehensive Mentoring; Sport Mentoring and Assistance
- Work with Experienced Coaches
Competition Management; Sport Specific Management
- Learn Fundamentals of Running a Specific Sport Competition
Within Two Year Of Start
3. Practicum - A minumum of 10 hours working with Special Olympics Athletes following a coach training seminar/course is required. Officials, competition Management Members may include a minimum of 10 hours in preparing for and/or in conducting competition.
4. Send In Your Application
After completing the first three steps, send in your application to become certified.

Special Olympics Connecticut will send you a certification letter and you will receive your certified credential at the next games. You will also receive a certification sheet from Special Olympics Internationl.
