Recertification
Levels II - IV
1. Take a Training Seminar/Course in one of the following:
Skills Course; Basic Sport Skills and Strategies
- Coaches training course offered right before training season
Principles of Coaching; Non-Sport Specific
- Basic principles of coaching, coaching philosophy, planning and coaching administration, fitness and conditioning, safety and risk management.
Games Management
- Course of how to run a successful Special Olympics event
Coaching Special Olympics Athletes
- What a sport-qualified person needs to know about the athlete, added responsibilities of the coach, training the athlete and preparing the athlete for competition.
Unified Sports® Course
- Definition of the program and guidelines for implementation
Official's Course in Specific Sport
- Rules, Guidelines and Procedures of officiating a sport
Volunteer Management
- Course on how to manage a wide variety of volunteers
Internet Courses
CPR/First Aid
- Certification in CPR and/or First Aid.
A copy of your certification card is required.
CPR and/or First Aid can only be used for a recertification in one sport.
3. Practicum - A minumum of 10 hours working with Special Olympics Athletes following a coach training seminar/course is required. Officials, competition Management Members may include a minimum of 10 hours in preparing for and/or in conducting competition.
4. Send In Your Application
After completing the first three steps, send in your application to become certified.
