CAS/Unified Sports®/Young Athletes Program
Youth Leadership Summit
On May 20th, at the CAS Conference Center in Cheshire, 80 high school student
leaders representing 15 high schools and 2 middle schools came together for the purpose of sharing ideas on Unified Sports® growth and expansion.
All shared inspirational stories and projects that have Unified Sports® as their basis. Several schools that have existing programs, such as Norwich, Cheshire and Amity shared ideas that have been successful in their school community for tolerance, acceptance, inclusion and enhancement of the total school climate with regard to kids helping kids.
New schools looking at starting Unified Sports® programs including Woodland, Nonnewaug, Lewis Mills, New Milford, Southington and Middletown “caught the energy” and left with action plans for taking the next step! Whitley Dozier of Plainville and the Cheshire Peer Leader group presented outstanding programs for others to learn from! "Be A Fan", drop the “R” word, and getting to know the special students in your school by sharing a lunch table were just some of the ideas that were exchanged.
The new Unified Sports® DVD was shown and made available to schools through the
Athletic Directors of each school. Bob Deasy is to be commended for the time and effort that he put into this wonderful conference! Hopefully, it will be replicated again.

Eastern Region Hosts Successful Competitions
The Eastern Region Office would like to congratulate and thank its Local Coordinators,

On May 4th athletes competed in the Eastern Region Athletics Competition at Stonington High School. Despite rainy weather, over 120 volunteers from Stonington High School, Sacred Heart University, and the USS Miami docked at the Groton Sub base supported this event.
Almost 900 athletes were registered to compete in the 2008 Eastern Regional Games hosted by the University of Hartford on May 10th. This was the 5th year that the University of Hartford hosted the Games. At the University of Hartford pool 180 athletes swam in races from 15m to 200m and over 375 athletes competed in athletics, walks, and wheelchair events at Weaver High School.
We wish our athletes and coaches the best of luck at the upcoming Summer Games in New Haven.
