Summer Games

Sport: Traditional Soccer
Date: June 7-8, 2008
Location: Hamden Hall Athletic Fields, Hamden

America's largest growing sport is also a huge hit in the world of Special Olympics Connecticut! With two days of non-stop soccer competition, we are looking for an energy filled, dynamic company to volunteer with both those with and without intellectual disabilities. Soccer teams from across the state will come together for the weekend to battle it out for a medal, and play on Hamden's top notch soccer fields. The event will take place during our largest and busiest weekends of the year, Summer Games.

Danbury Softball Invitational

Sport: Traditional and Unified Softball
Date: August 9, 2008
Location: Rogers Park, Danbury

In 2007, 205 athletes and Unified Partners from around Connecticut and New York came together in Danbury for a day of softball and fun. We are looking for an energetic company who would like to enjoy a day full of smiles and sun with people with and without intellectual disabilities. We would also like to provide the teams with an outstanding lunch program and appreciation gifts. Please call 203.267.6566.

Fall Sports Festival

Sport: Golf 9-Hole
Date: September, 2008
Location: Sleeping Giant Golf Course, Hamden

The 9-hole portion of our Golfing tournament will take place during the weekend of Fall Sports Festival. Golfers from across Connecticut will gather at the beautiful Sleeping Giant Golf Course which resides at the bottom of Sleeping Giant Mountain. On lookers will be amazed by the incredible golf ability of athletes with and without intellectual disabilities.

Northwest Regional Bowling Qualifier

Sport: Traditional and Unified Bowling
Date: November 1 & 2, 2008
Location: Lore's Lanes, New Milford & TBD, Bristol/Southington area

Bowling is Special Olympics Connecticut's fastest growing sport. In 2007, 380 athletes and Unified Partners bowled at Super Bowl in Plantsville and Lore's Lanes in New Milford. They then went on to compete at the Holiday Sports Classic. We are looking for volunteers to assist with scorekeeping and to act as athlete escorts. We would also like to provide the athletes with a delicious and nutritious lunch, as well as souvenirs from the competition.

Holiday Sports Classic

Sport: Power lifting
Date: November, 2008
Location: Flood Middle School, Stratford

The power lifting competition is an uplifting day of watching Special Olympics athletes' bench press their weight and more. Spectators are more than impressed to watch these incredibly gifted athletes battle it out for a medal.

Sport: Bowling
Date: November, 2008
Location: AMF Lanes, East Haven

Holiday Sports Classic bowling takes the position as the number one most popular sport among our athletes and partners. With over 1,900 competitors bowling for two days straight, there is sure to be a lot of excitement!

Winter Games

Sport: Floor Hockey
Date: March 2008
Location: Pratt & Whitney Hangar, East Hartford

The Floor Hockey competition takes place during the weekend of the Winter Games and includes persons with and without intellectual disabilities playing together and against each other in a challenging and enduring match of floor hockey. Over a dozen teams from across Connecticut come together to celebrate Special Olympics Connecticut and the intense sport of hockey.

Urban Youth Day

Date: April 2008
Location: New Haven City-wide Field House

Urban Youth Day is an event designed to bring inner city youth and Special Olympics Connecticut athletes together to compete with and against each other on the basketball court and in track & field. Students from over 10 inner-city schools are bused into the New Haven City-Wide Field House to enjoy a day of competition. New to the event this year is an exhibition of gymnastics, golf, floor hockey and power lifting; sports students may not have otherwise been exposed to. Special Olympics CT athletes will be on hand to demonstrate and answer any questions.
