Special Olympics Connecticut is introducing a new sport - Floorball!
Floorball is the fastest growing indoor sport in the world. It's indoor hockey played with a small plastic ball. It’s fast paced, exciting, easy to play and just so much fun! The sport was first introduced to Special Olympics in 2008 and became an Official Special Olympic Sport in 2014. Floorball has many advantages over floor hockey (which is no longer offered here in Connecticut) in that Floorball is safe, easy to learn and equipment costs are very low.
Floorball is being introduced here in Connecticut at the 2025 Winter Games. We will be offering competition for traditional teams, Unified teams as well as individual skills competition. Right now, teams across Connecticut are gearing up and getting ready to start practices for the upcoming winter season. Matter of fact, just this past October, coaches from 12 local programs attended Floorball coaches training in Rocky Hill preparing to bring this sport to their local programs. We are pleased to continue partnering with Pratt and Whitney to offer this competition at the Pratt and Whitney Hanger Museum in East Hartford.
Start a team and we'll see you at Winter Games. For more information and to get started, email SOCT's Dave Pellino at [email protected].
