My name is Brandon Knight. I am an athlete with Special Olympics Groton who competed in track & field at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, Florida. I been participating in Special Olympics for 20 years and became a Global Messenger in 2021.

In addition to track & field and long-distance running, I like to play volleyball and basketball. I also enjoy working out, video games and movies. I am a Seattle Seahawks fan!

I want to share on how I eat healthy every day.

Eating healthy keeps you healthy. Eating healthy makes you feel good about yourself. Eating healthy helps you recover faster and eating healthy helps you perform your best at sports.

I tried many plans and I either fell off the wagon or was talked into stopping. For example, I did try to be a vegetarian once and ended up stopping sooner rather than later.  But I understand how healthy it is to be a vegetarian.  And another time when I was in a racing league I wasn’t keeping up with up with a lot of the completion so I decided to start fasting and it helped. After the league, I decided to continue with the plan but ended up putting back on the weight.

So what plans will work? At first I said diet plans are for desperate people but had a change of heart. Then I discovered Macro Nutrition. In short it focuses on feeding the masses, the right amount of protein, fat, and carbohydrates. If done right I can look forward to taking down that 30k in a few years.

When it comes to Special Olympics I try to keep myself well rounded to not only compete at my best and entertain the crowd, but accomplish my personal goals to feel like a winner. Outside of Special Olympics I plan to do something big that will require a lot of sweat, determination and maybe blood to earn a Trifecta Spartan Medal.

I also post on the Special Olympics Connecticut Fit 5 page to encourage athletes on doing their best and tell people what I did for my exercise. I want to explain to the public on how I keep myself healthy and my goals and maybe I can inspire someone who reads this to follow my footsteps.

Nothing is impossible to reach as long as you stay true to two simple yet powerful quotes: Believe in yourself and never give up!
