Our Winter Sports Season - Happening Now!
1.20.26
By: Special Olympics Connecticut
Winter sports practices organized by our Special Olympics local programs are currently happening across the state. Athletes and Unified Sports® partners are playing floorball - now in its second year of being offered - skiing down slopes and across snow-covered fields, speeding around ice rinks and rehearsing their gymnastics routines. They're also coming together to learn curling and working hard to improve their basketball skills and strategies!
As these athletes and partners train, they're setting their sights on performing their best and medaling at major upcoming events including Winter Games, February 28th and March 1st and our Traditional Basketball Tournament, March 21st. Our Unified Sports® high school teams will also play basketball at half-time and our level one teams will play competitively at Mohegan Sun during the CIAC Championships in March!
Behind the scenes, volunteers are coaching participants and volunteers like those from Eversource are spending long hours in the cold making man-made snow so our athletes have ideal conditions for competition.
