An interview with Jenn LeFebre, Adaptive Personal Trainer at Number One Training in Cheshire and Angie D'Amico, SOCT's Assistant, Health and Wellness.
How did you hear about Special Strong?
Angie: I was at Quinnipiac University's adaptive sports day, where they were holding different kinds of tables that offered different programs, and Special Strong stood out to me.
What is Special Strong?
Jenn: Special Strong is an adaptive fitness program that provides individualized personal training for people with intellectual, physical, and developmental differences.
At its core, Special Strong is about making fitness accessible and inclusive for everyone. We believe everyone deserves a place to move, train, get stronger, and work toward goals that matter to them. Maybe your goal is to get stronger, improve your balance or endurance, run a race, or become a stronger athlete. We take those goals and create training specifically for you.
There isn’t one “right” way to exercise or one type of person who belongs in a gym. Fitness is for everybody, and everybody deserves the opportunity to participate.
Why did you start going to Special Strong?
Angie: I wanted to give myself an opportunity to try something new. This was one of my goals. I always wanted to work out one to one with someone I know on a personal basis. When I was working out by myself I didn’t get the full effect of working out and needed someone to be there to tell me what to do and help me reach my goals in exercising. I looked into other programs/gyms and this specific program is working with people with IDD so that made this program stick out to me.
