Rachel D'Amora
Track & Field Coach
North Haven, CT
Meet Rachel D’Amora, a track and field coach from North Haven who is a member of Team Connecticut for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. Rachel works as a Behavior Analyst for New Britain Public Schools. She has been involved in Special Olympics Unified Sports® as a Unified partner and coach since 2003, and has participated in basketball, bocce, floor hockey, and track and field.
“Being part of Special Olympics has connected me with an incredible community of athletes, coaches, and families. It has been incredibly rewarding to support athletes as they increase their confidence and athletic skills,” says Rachel.
Throughout her time as a Unified partner and coach, Rachel has come to realize that being an effective coach requires her to do everything in her power to earn the trust of her athletes. She always needs to be mindful of how athletes respond to her and make adjustments to encourage an inclusive environment. Rachel is most proud when she sees her athletes support a struggling teammate.
In addition to Special Olympics, Rachel enjoys British murder mystery shows. She admires her parents’ unwavering commitment to inclusion.
“I am honored to be the track and field coach for Team Connecticut,” says Rachel. “I eagerly anticipate the progress my athletes will make and witnessing the culmination of their hard work at the Games.”
Rachel is preparing for the USA Games by working on her poor sense of direction. She promised one of her athletes that she wouldn’t let her get lost and is committed to keeping that promise!
