Dayne Coy

Unified Basketball Athlete

Oxford, CT

Dayne Coy is a member of Special Olympics Connecticut’s Unified Sports® basketball team headed to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minneapolis! Dayne is 15 years old and a student at Oxford High School - a Unified Champion School®. He’s been involved in Special Olympics Unified Sports® for four years, and has participated in cornhole, flag football, kickball, soccer, and volleyball. He received the CIAC Exemplary Unified Teammate Award and, along with his teammates, became a Connecticut State Unified Basketball Champion. “Special Olympics allows me to work and play as part of a team,” says Dayne.

Dayne is proudest when he’s trying his best. He admires his mother who keeps going no matter how hard things get. Dayne's biggest challenge has been dealing with the loss of his father. "It isn't something you can really overcome, but with the support of my family and friends I have gotten through it," he says.

In addition to Unified Sports®, Dayne enjoys camping, sports-related activities, playing video games, watching WWE, and listening to music. He also fundraises with his family for Seymour Pink, which is important to him since his mother is a breast cancer survivor. Singing is his hidden talent and his favorite song to sing for karaoke is "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey.

Dayne is looking forward to attending his first USA Games and traveling to Minneapolis with his team. He has been practicing both at school and at home to prepare for the Games.
