Unified Basketball Partner

Oxford, CT

Meet Sean Bush, Unified partner on the Unified Sports® basketball team from Oxford High School heading to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games representing Connecticut. Sean has been involved with Special Olympics Unified Sports® for the past two years through his school and serves as a captain for the team.

Sean says Special Olympics has had a powerful impact on his life. “It’s given me a new perspective and helped me step out of my comfort zone,” says Sean. Through sports, he’s seen firsthand how Special Olympics brings people together and creates a sense of unity.

He is most proud of his leadership roles at Oxford High School. In addition to being the captain of the Unified Sports® basketball team, he’s also captain of the varsity hockey team and serves as president of his school’s mountain bike club. These experiences have helped him become a confident leader and a supportive teammate.

Sean admires his dad the most, crediting him as a role model for the kind of person he hopes to become. “He works hard and always looks for ways to make others happy,” Sean says.

Sean is excited to attend his first USA Games and feels honored to represent Connecticut and his high school on a national stage. He is especially looking forward to spending time with his teammates and competing alongside athletes from across the country.

To prepare for the Games, Sean practices basketball regularly in his Unified Sports® class and competes on a Level 1 Unified basketball team. Outside of basketball, he enjoys being outdoors and staying active through hockey, golf, fishing, mountain biking, and kayaking. A fun fact about Sean: he’s been playing hockey since he was just five years old and works as a youth hockey referee.
