John Lopez is an athlete from New Haven who is a member of the Unified Sports® softball team going to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. John is 33 years old and works as a landscaper. He has been involved in Special Olympics for more than 20 years and has participated in basketball and track and field in addition to softball.
John says that Special Olympics helps him learn and grow. He is proud of the great athlete he has become.
In addition to Special Olympics, John enjoys working at his job, playing pool, and attending community outings. He also likes to travel and has visited Savannah, Georgia and been on several cruises. He admires his brother Lamont because he’s shown him how to be a man and taught him to learn from his mistakes.
“Attending the USA Games means the world to me,” says John. To prepare, he goes to the gym and attends softball practice twice a week.
