Meet Jorge Maldonado, a Unified Sports® athlete who will participate in softball as a member of Team Connecticut for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games! Jorge is 39 years old and lives in Norwich. He works as a landscaper for CW Resources in Newport, Rhode Island.
Jorge has participated in Special Olympics for 12 years with Coach Pete Wagner and the New London Wildcats.
“It’s fun. I like the friendships and the competition. I have met so many role models who help me in my life, especially (through) tough times and tough days,” said Jorge. Jorge has won many gold medals for Special Olympics softball and volleyball, and has attended a tournament in New Hampshire.
Jorge is known as having a great sense of humor and his hobbies include video games, doing puzzles, and visiting his girlfriend. He is proud that he lives on his own, has a job, and is part of the Special Olympics Wildcats family. He admires his mom and Coach Pete the most.
Jorge feels that he has worked hard for so many years and is excited to finally have the chance to compete at a national level.
