Sarah Blunt

Unified Softball Coach

Hartford, CT

Sarah Blunt is a Unified Sports® softball coach who will represent Connecticut and join her team in going to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. Sarah lives in Hartford and works as a special education teacher at Academy of Aerospace and Engineering Elementary School in Rocky Hill, for its Building Blocks program. She has been involved in Special Olympics for over 25 years. She first got involved as a Unified Sports® partner and has participated in basketball, floor hockey, soccer, and softball. She later became a coach and now serves as the Head Coach for the Special Olympics West Hartford (traditional) team.

“Special Olympics has truly shaped who I am, both personally and professionally,” says Sarah. Sarah also says it’s taught her the meaning of patience, teamwork, and inclusion.. She says being part of the organization has been one of the most rewarding parts of her life.

Sarah is most proud of watching her teams grow as athletes and act as compassionate, kind, and respectful competitors. “Over the years, I’ve seen so many of our Hartford athletes develop incredible sportsmanship and teamwork,” says Sarah.

In addition to Special Olympics, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, playing pool/billiards, and playing sports - especially basketball. She also loves to spend time on the beach at Cape Cod, one of her favorite places to recharge and reflect.

Sarah admires her parents the most, especially her mom. Growing up, her mom ran a daycare that included both typical children and children with special needs. “Our house was always full of laughter, patience, and love,” said Sarah. Her dad taught her to value education, ask questions, and stand up for herself.

“Attending the USA Games means everything to me. It’s an opportunity to celebrate years of hard work, dedication, and the incredible athletes and coaches who make Special Olympics so meaningful,” says Sarah. Sarah looks forward to watching the athletes shine on a national stage, build friendships, and share memorable moments.

To prepare for the Games, she is guiding the team through weekly practices, skill drills, and team building.
