Youth Leadership Mentor
Old Lyme, CT
Christine Corah is a Special Olympics Youth Leadership Experience Mentor from Old Lyme and member of the Connecticut delegation for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. Christine works as a biology and marine science teacher at Lyme-Old Lyme High School and is Head Coach of the Lyme-Old Lyme High School Unified Sports® team in the fall and spring and the girls’ basketball team in the winter.
Christine has been involved in Special Olympics through her school’s program for seven years. Her team participates in local and state tournaments and competes in basketball, bowling, cornhole, soccer, track and field, and volleyball. She also organizes fun activities for her team including crabbing, fishing, hiking, ice skating, and mini golf outings.
Christine is most proud when she sees her athletes and Unified partners make meaningful connections and friendships that last beyond the sports season. “It is extremely heartwarming to see that inclusion transcends the school grounds,” says Christine.
In addition to Special Olympics, Christine loves to cook, hike, fish, run half marathons, and spend long days at the beach. She also teaches at the Mystic Aquarium.
Christine admires her mom the most since she raised her and her brother on her own while being a high school teacher. She recently certified her dog, Monti, as a therapy dog and brings him to school twice a week to support the students.
“Atending the 2026 USA Games will give me the opportunity to further develop and deepen my understanding and involvement with Special Olympics and Unified Sports®,” says Christine. To prepare, she is staying active and informed about all the plans and preparations for the Games!
