Gabby Blum
Unified Basketball Partner
Oxford, CT
Gabby Blum is a Special Olympics Unified Sports® partner who will be participating in the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minneapolis as a member of the Connecticut delegation. She is a junior at Oxford High School, a Unified Champion School®. While this is Gabby's first year participating in Special Olympics Unified Sports®, her brother has participated for many years. "Watching his involvement in Special Olympics and Unified Sports® has given me the opportunity to realize how much of an impact these events have on the athletes," says Gabby. Gabby is excited to make an impact not only on Oxford's Unified Sports® basketball team, but on Connecticut teams of the future.
She delights in seeing her fellow classmates and teammates succeed. "Whether it is for a personal goal they have, getting a good test score back, or accomplishing a new skill, I love seeing them feel confident and excited," she says.
Gabby’s most proud of having played in the Naugatuck Valley League golf tournament, getting high honors on her report cards, and being asked to join the Special Olympics Oxford team.
Along with participating in Special Olympics, she enjoys playing golf, baking at home, and playing catch with a football or softball with her dad and brother. Gabby plays on the school basketball and golf team and enjoys seeing her school's musicals. She also volunteers at her church, participating in events that gather the church community together and raise money for the faith formation program. Gabby's favorite genre of music is country, but she also likes Taylor Swift.
Gabby admires her Aunt Patrice the most because she has a strong work ethic and is kind, caring, and generous. She is one of Gabby's biggest supporters, who encourages her to be the best student and person she can be.
Gabby feels that participating in the 2026 USA Games is an incredible honor. "I am super excited and can't wait to see what other doors the experience will open for me," she says.
