Meet Team CT's Swimming Team
When the starting horn sounds, Team Connecticut’s swimming squad is ready to dive in at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. Four dedicated athletes hail from nearly every corner of Connecticut and have the guidance of Coach Heather Minervini, a 20+ year coach and a Michael Phelps Foundation IM Champion Coach. This group represents speed, strength, perseverance - and above all - the heart of inclusion that defines our movement.
- Sean Bogart: A stalwart competitor from North Haven, Sean has shown remarkable stamina across multiple sports, especially swimming. His journey has been defined by resilience and a willingness to push through setbacks. This is his second USA Games, after competing in the triathlon at 2014 USA Games in New Jersey.
- Selina Derungs: With 25+ years in the pool and experience representing the U.S. in the 2015 Special Olympics World Games and CT in two other USA Games, Selina brings veteran leadership, depth of experience, and a competitive spirit that lifts the entire team while representing her hometown of Simsbury.
- Alexandra Frumin: A rising athlete on the roster, Alexandra is willing to travel from Greenwich to infuse the team with energy and eagerness - committed to honing her strokes, embracing the challenge, and making her mark at the national level for the first time!
- Aedan Tenbrunsel: A dedicated competitor with focus and drive, Aedan adds depth, youth, and enthusiasm to the Team CT lineup - ready to step up, swim strong, and show what Connecticut athletes can do. This will be his first, but likely not last, USA Games experience!
- Coach Heather Minervini: Guiding the squad from the deck, Heather brings experience, strategy, and mentorship - ensuring each swimmer enters the pool not just as an athlete, but as a representative of our state. She knows what it takes to shine on a national stage, having coached athletes at three other USA Games.
Together, this team will:
-
Train two times a week at various swimming pools across the state leading up to the Games.
-
Compete across multiple swimming events at the 2026 USA Games, pushing personal bests and state pride.
-
Embody the inclusive, athlete-centered spirit of Special Olympics - to win medals, yes, but also to connect, uplift, and inspire.
